Arteta determine to win titles
Mikel Arteta, who Arsene Wenger just named his
new captain at Arsenal, has stated his intent to
win more silverware this season, after winning
the FA Community Shield on Sunday.
Arteta has revealed that confidence is high in the
Gunners’ camp after the club won their second
trophy in just two months, following the FA Cup
success at the end of last season.
“We want to progress from what we did last
season. It was a long spell without trophies, we
put it right last season but it's not enough for
this club," he told Sky Sports .
“I think we have to aim for bigger things and
hopefully starting the season like this will help to
boost the confidence, the belief, and I think we
are heading in the right direction.”
Arsenal began the 2014/15 campaign on an ideal
note with a 3-0 win over last season’s Premier
League winners, Manchester City in last Sunday's community shield cup. Santi Cazorla,
Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud all grabbed goals in a solid performance.
“Facing one of the top teams, the champions of the Premier League last season, and with some of
the games we had against the top teams when we didn't perform that well, today was a good opportunity to put it right,” Arteta added.
"We showed that we can compete again.” Arsenal begin their Premier League campaign, where they will be hoping to challenge for the title, against Crystal Palace on August 16 at 18:30.
