Oscar targets positive starts in new era
The Chelsea midfielder is focused on making a positive start under new coach Dunga as Brazil meet Colombia and Ecuador on the Gillette Brasil Global Tour in September Oscar says the time has come to kick-start a new era of Brazilian football.
The Chelsea midfielder is one of just 10 players from the World Cup squad who suffered semi-final defeat to Germany to have retained his place in Dunga’s squad for the upcoming Gillette Brasil Global Tour double-header against Colombia and Ecuador this week.
And the 22-year-old says their new coach has told them forget their World Cup heartache and focus on the future as they begin preparations for next year’s Copa America In Chile.
“The stage we are going through is very important. We are trying to help the new players in the squad remain calm and we hope to put in two good performances and start our new cycle on the right foot,” he told reporters in Miami. "Dunga told all players that everybody has to
have their head up, forget what happened — not forget, but work and show what we can do.”
His Chelsea teammate echoed those sentiments, urging his international colleagues to move on from the July’s shock 7-1 defeat in Fortaleza.
“I think that the first thing we have to do is mak sure we work very hard, that is the most important thing,” said Willian.
“Brazilians will only forget the world cup through years of victories. We have to work towards winning every single game in order to forget wha
happened.” Dunga is set to introduce Atletico Mineiro striker
Diego Tardelli in a false no.9 position against Colombia at Sun Life stadium on Friday, which
Willian believes is a more modern approach than that implemented by previous coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.
“Tardelli is not a traditional No.9,” he said. “He is someone who moves around the pitch a lot. In modern football it’s hard to find a No.9
who plays as a fixed forwards. You see more strikers who move and that is how we plan to play in this first game.”
Brazil follow up their clash with Colombia in New Jersey on September 9 against Ecuador at Met
Life Stadium.
