Kumasi may not host subsequent BLACK STARS games- Ibrahim Sannie Diara
Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association,
Ibrahim Saanie Daara has hinted Kumasi may not host further
Black Stars matches in the foreseeable future due to the unfriendly reception accorded the team in Ghana’s recent AFCON 2015
qualifier against Uganda.
The spokesperson made the revelation at the Baba Yara Sports
Stadium after Sunday morning’s Black Stars training session.
“On our future matches in Kumasi, we have consistently said that
our policy in these things have been to try to rotate matches,”he revealed.
“The original plan for this game was to play it in Accra. As we all
know, the facilities in Accra are not up to scratch; we have scoreboard problems and it was the reason why
we came to Kumasi,” he added.
Playing in front of a very hostile gathering at the Baba Yara
Stadium on Saturday evening and what could pass for the least
fans turn out in recent times for a Ghana home game, the Black
Stars had to rely on a second half Andre Ayew penalty to draw
level after Tony Mawejje had given the Cranes a first half lead.
“We’re not abandoning Kumasi but the plans to also rotate matches at the venues throughout the country
has not been abandoned,” he explained.
“We’ll consider all the venues and we also have to judge the mood
of the people,” he disclosed. After what remains Ghana’ s worst outing at a FIFA World Cup competition in what saw players demand appearance fees owed them before taking to the field for Ghana’s last
match at the 2014 World Cup against Portugal, most Ghanaians
have been left distraught with the attitude of the Black Stars particularly considering the timing of their uproar.
Ghana eventually exited the competition after a 2-1 reverse, even
after the players’ financial demand had been fulfilled the night before and it appears the fans are just not letting their resentment go.
